Here are two paintings from a three hour sketch session along West Saanich Road in Royal Oak. On the left the former Royal Oak Inn, built in 1939. On the right the former Royal Oak Community Hall. Apart from the Signage, it looks exactly like in 1911, when it was built. Ink and Watercolour on Paper 26 x 11 in

Teaching at the Coast Collective

Exciting News!  Starting Thursday, January 14 with 6 sessions until February 18, I will be teaching a life drawing class at the Coast Collective!

CC_LUYFD

This course is designed for those who seek a more gestural, rather than a slow and measured approach to drawing from a life model. Each class will be a combination of demonstration, exercises and drawing with supportive feedback. The focus is less on creating likeness, but more on establishing a natural flow while drawing that will create dynamic and energetic drawings.

Classes will teach composition, basic shapes, values, hard and soft edges, and line weight. We will be building up the figure from simple, basic shapes which we continuously refine. Anatomy will not be an important part; instead we will develop our sense to observe correctly. Emphasis will be on short dynamic poses up to 5 minutes rather than long and static sessions.

We will have a life model for each of our classes. Some experience in drawing from life is helpful but not necessary. Embrace a faster, more intuitive way of drawing without pressure.

Check out http://www.coastcollective.ca/classes-1/drawing-pastels/loosen-up-your-drawings   for details or to sign up.

See you in January!
